MONTHLY REPORT: MAYOR?S COMMITTEE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Contacted by Heather Smith from West Central with invitation to Mayor?s
Motorade and Luncheon. Spoke with Ms. Smith on MCPD involvement and added her
to contact list.
Contacted by Mae Evans-Lee concerning parents needing adult daycare for older
children. I informed Ms. Lee of Easter Seal services and other older adult
daycare information. I also researched information on New Horizons adult
daycare programs as well.
Contacted Deborah Grossman?s Law Firm for information on Ms. Grossman
participating in the Mayor?s Committee Meeting in January as a speaker.
(Information was retrieved from Business News Segment). Point of Contact is
Samantha (Ms. Grossman?s secretary). She will be presenting at the Mayor?s
Committee meeting on January 20, 2011. Requested Bio for Ms. Grossman for
meeting notification. Also shared information on getting involved with the
Mayor?s Executive Board Committee.
Spoke with John Redmond concerning Office Audit. Mr. Redmond requested
information on the committee?s by-laws, resolution and meeting minutes for the
past 2-3 years. He needed documentation on the committee?s authorities and
responsibilities. I requested any information I could retrieve from the
Mayor?s Committee and Tina Washington. Tina researched for several days and
couldn?t locate any resolution for committee. I forwarded Mr. Redmond copies
of all minutes of meetings dated back to November 2006. Suzanne Barnes and
Connie Freier both assisted with forwarding minutes/notes from meetings as
well. No information was forwarded from committee on resolution or any other
information needed.
Forwarded PSA and made personal contacts to local media for Pepsi Refresh
Contest. I also shared information with all City Employees for participation
in the CSU Servant Leadership project, which if awarded, will give $250,000
towards the project to build a special needs playground in Columbus.
Contacted by Betty Mathis/Frank Bristow requesting a ramp be built.

Spoke with Connie Freier and contacted Ray Vinson concerning updates on Ramp
Project. I forwarded new names to be added. Ray sent information on next
project to be done and will send updated list and receipts to be forwarded to
ESP, Inc.
Contacted by Melony Buckner concerning utility assistance through ESP, Inc.
Also spoke about SSI cost of living not increasing for the upcoming fiscal
year. I shared some other resources with Ms. Buckner, i.e. Chattahoochee
Valley Episcopal Mins., Urban League, Valley Rescue Mission among others.
Made several attempts to contact Jerilyn Leverett of Disability Connections of
Macon. Committee requested a presentation with information on the newly
established Columbus Center for Independent Living (CIL). Connie Freier offered
to forward invitation to Ms. Leverett and I have connected with a local board
member for more information. Our office is awaiting feedback on her reply to
invitation.

I forwarded invitation to committee for review, along with event details.
Changes for the invitation were sent back and invite was forwarded to
organization contact list, media contacts (PSA), government
employees/department heads, Mayor elect Tomlinson, Mayor Wetherington, and
general committee contacts. The event was held on December 16 from 11am-1pm.

Contacted by Susan Lawrence for information on exchanging her placard for a
permanent tag. I contacted Tony Floyd in Tax Commissioner/Tag Registration to
forward information to Ms. Lawrence. She is unable to come to office, however
she has the application from her doctor that is required to obtain tag. I
conducted a follow up with Mr. Floyd and Ms. Lawrence and she was contacted by
the office with information she needed to complete her request.
Conducted follow up with Tiffany Ingram from Area Agency on Aging concerning
her interest in joining the committee, participating as a presenter at our MCPD
meeting, attending the Holiday Social and getting with Peter Bowden of the
Visitor?s Bureau to include information in New Comers packet on their agency
and other vital information pertaining to the special needs population. The
AAA is scheduled to present information at our March 17th, 2011 meeting.
Communicated with several interested individuals information on joining the
MCPD Executive Board Committee, to include the following: Carol Ashe, Brandi
Dawson-King, Heather Smith, Joe McNeil, and Tiffany Ingram.
Spoke with Ms. Hogan of the GIS Department concerning needed information to
complete ADA Workshop and Job Fair Statistics/Follow Up Report to build
database. Ms. Hogan forwarded request for needed information to Ron Frasier
and Candace Head both of The Department of Labor, awaiting reply in order to
complete report.
Spoke with Suzanne Barnes (MCPD Executive Member/CLASS Program for Columbus
Public Library System), on scheduling Mayor?s Committee meetings and a local
contact for Columbus ILC. She gave me a local number as well as suggested
contacting the National Federation for the Blind Newsline for presentation
information on their Reading to the Blind Program. I will research information
and update.
Contacted by Barbara Cooper (706-801-0056) wanted some feedback concerning the
mayor?s actions for crime victim (domestic). Ms. Cooper?s message was very
vague and general, with no specific details. I contacted and spoke with CCG?s
Victim?s Witness Office Specialist Exie Bokin and also forwarded the message
from Ms. Cooper to her. (Ms. Bokin and I spoke on a couple of occasions
concerning this matter). She advised me to ask Ms. Cooper what is her specific
complaint, is it in regards to a case, etc. in Columbus or another area. I was
not able to reach Ms. Cooper with the number she left to contact her.
Contacted by ?Mother Love? Flourney to return her call. (770-739-6103) I was
not able to connect due to the number not accepting incoming calls, however I
did leave a message in hopes she will return the call.
Received calls/emails to RSVP for the Holiday Social?Paul Spencer, HANDS Adult
Daycare, and others.
Made contacts with various CCG employees/departments for assistance for Holiday
Social for set up. (Human Resources, Maintenance Dept., Citizen?s Services,
Metra, Learning Center, Mayor?s Office). Made purchases with Mayor?s office
Credit Card and personal monies, which was reimbursed by city.
Contacted by Mr. Myers (706-508-0818) for his friend, R.T. Haynes, who needed
resources/assistance for housing until he can move on January 1st. He has
already contacted House of Mercy who doesn?t have accommodations at this time.
I gave Mr. Myers other resources?Salvation Army, Russell County HPRP Program
with help with utilities and housing. I called House of Restoration
(334-297-0360) who has the HPRP Program, and was told that Mr. Haynes should
call Ms. Love at Tuskegee (because he is a veteran), to see if he qualifies for
services there. (1-800-214-8387, ext. 2838).
Contacted by John Redmond, City Auditor, for contact information for Mitzi
Oxford and Ron Frasier, in process of completing office audit.
Spoke with Ms. Clara Gibson at the Holiday Social, concerning follow up
information on having her ramp built. I informed Ms. Gibson our Ramp Committee
would need contact information for her landlord and owner to get permission to
build. Ms. Gibson called with update information for her landlord and owner.
I told Ms. Gibson, I would forward the information and someone would contact
her after the new year.
Contacted by Melony Buckner concerning resources for bedding (mattress) for her
son and wanted to know what the Mayor?s Committee function was. I informed Ms.
Buckner of the function of our office and some community merchants that she can
make a purchase within her means.
I researched newsletter examples and formatted a sample for Mae Evans-Lee (MCPD
Executive Board Member), who is volunteering to assist with our newsletter. I
forwarded the sample and another example from another state for the committee
to review and give feedback. I am awaiting responses and input from the
committee.
Contacted by Catherine Lawrence requesting a ramp be built at her home. Her
friend LaVern Byrd also needs a ramp, but lives in a rented property. I
informed Ms. Lawrence of the procedure for her and Ms. Byrd for assistance to
have ramp built. Permission would be needed from owner/landlord to build on
rental property, and I would forward information to Ramp Committee and they
would contact her and make appointment to visit. I also gave her information
on Project Care with CCG Reinvestment Department. I informed Ms. Lawrence to
call and get on the waiting list with them as well.

Social Holiday Report
We had approx. 45-50 people who came through (with only 40 signing our guest
book) Mayor Wetherington came by and he and Mitzi Oxford?MCPD Chairman?had a
chance for a media interview. Mayor Elect Teresa Tomlinson apologized for her
absence, however, will be much more involved in the near future. Some of the
