A RESOLUTION
NO.________
WHEREAS, according to the Columbus Convention and Visitors Board (CVB), the
Department of Defense (DOD) will be moving to cut government per diems as much
as 45 percent;
WHEREAS, such a move would mean government officials could only spend $77.00
($48.95 on lodging and $28.05 on meals) per day versus a current $140.00
($89.00 on lodging and $51.00 on meals) per day;
WHEREAS, such a reduction would negatively impact the hotel industry which is
already struggling with impact of sequestration;
WHEREAS, the Georgia Association of CVBs, the Georgia Hotel Lodging
Association, and U.S. Travel all oppose such a reduction and have learned that
DOD is considering repealing this reduction;
WHEREAS, this Council desires to join the CVB and other groups in opposing this
reduction and urging DOD to repeal any such reduction, keeping per diem rates
at current levels.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby join the Columbus Convention and Visitors Board and urge the
Department of Defense to keep government per diem rates at current levels
without any further reduction. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
each member of the Georgia Congressional Delegation and to the Secretary of
Defense.
