WHEREAS, Jaimie Briggs DeLoach was born on January 14, 1960 in Columbus,
Georgia. She lived for a time in Paris, France during her childhood and thus
began a lifelong love for art, language and studies of other cultures;
WHEREAS, Jaimie pursued her passions for art and literature by attending Boston
University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Greek Language and
Literature with a Minor in English Literature, Magna Cum Laude in May, 1982;
WHEREAS, Jaimie then attended the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens
receiving her Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude in May of 1991. She was a member
of the Order of the Coif and University of Law Review;
WHEREAS, in 1990, Jaimie married the love of her life, Jon DeLoach who
practices law in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Columbus, Georgia;
WHEREAS, Jaimie worked in Washington, D.C. during law school at the firm of
Shaw, Pittman, Potts and Trowbridge and at Jones Day in Atlanta, Georgia;
WHEREAS, she worked as a contract legal researcher and writer in Columbus,
Georgia from 1995-1999, specializing in Motions for Summary Judgment and
Appellate Brief writing for many lawyers in Columbus. She also worked for the
less fortunate and represented defendants in Juvenile, State and Recorder?s
Courts;
WHEREAS, Jaimie served ably as a staff attorney for the U.S. Magistrate Judge
in Columbus from 1999-2001, and then began a ten-year career as Assistant City
Attorney for the Consolidated Government of Columbus, Georgia. She was a
brilliant researcher and worked on employment, civil rights and numerous
matters in civil litigation;
WHEREAS, in 2011, Jaimie took a job as Counsel for Columbus State University
where she enjoyed general legal defense work as well as teaching in the
business school;
WHEREAS, Jaimie was an avid tennis player and loved tending her flower garden.
She volunteered at Columbus Reads and many other local civic organizations. She
and Jon always cheered for her beloved Georgia Bulldogs along with their two
children, Briggs and Nathalie DeLoach and family cats;
WHEREAS, Jaimie Briggs DeLoach was a bright comet in the Columbus, Georgia
legal community and her brilliant light came and went much too quickly.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of
Jaimie B. DeLoach. Her service to the Columbus community will long be
remembered. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family of Jaimie
B. DeLoach.
