Agenda Item # 1

Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

02/20/2007

Agenda Report # 95

To: Mayor and Council

Subject: Tony Hawk Foundation

Initiated By: Parks and Recreation Department

Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and if approved

accept $25.000 in funding from the Tony Hawk Foundation to help with the design

and construction of the skatepark and amend the Multi-Governmental Fund by the

amount of the grant award.

Background: Tony Hawk Foundation is based on the premise of expanding the

use and enjoyment of skateboard activities throughout the country. It is

funding provided by the foundation to non profits and municipalities to assist

with skatepark construction and amenities. This grant has historically been

available only to non profits, and has now been opened for city and county

governments. Tony Hawk is a skateboarder who has become a successful business

man through entrepreneurship.

Analysis: The skatepark has been designed by the youth of Columbus for the

enjoyment of all. SPLOST monies featuring prioritized listing would be utilized

to assist with the completion of this project.

Financial Considerations: The grant will offset a portion of funding required

to complete the skatepark. There is not match requirement for this grant

either monetary or in kind.

Legal Considerations: The submission of all grants have to be approved by

resolution by Council.

Recommendation: Authorize a resolution to accept funds up to the amount of

$25,000 from the Tony Hawk Foundation for the design and construction of a

skatepark , thus improving recreational opportunities in the community.
