A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF GEORGIA

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,000.00 TO THE CITY OF COLUMBUS,

GEORGIA TO CONVERT "THE MOTHER OF THE BLUES" MA RAINEY HOUSE INTO A MUSEUM.

WHEREAS, converting the Ma Rainey house into a museum will create a living

memorial for both an artistic and visual year round program of the blues; and,

WHEREAS, the Friends of Ma Rainey agrees to match the grant funds in the amount

of $10,000; and,

WHEREAS, it has been determined to be in the best interest of the City of

Columbus, Georgia to obtain a grant to convert the Ma Rainey house into a

museum.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY

RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a grant, if

approved, in the amount of $20,000 from the State of Georgia Local Development

Fund and accept matching funds from the Friends of Ma Rainey in the amount of

$10,000. Amend the Multi-Government Grant Fund by the amount of the grant plus

matching funds.
