TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: 2015 Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission Grant

INITIATED BY: Columbus Fire and EMS Department

Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a grant of $26,353.10 from

Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission by like amount.

Background: Funds have been allocated to the Georgia Association of EMS

from the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission for administration to Columbus

Fire and EMS for the purchase of trauma equipment. In 2007, the Georgia

Legislature through Senate Bill 60 established the Georgia Trauma Care Network

Commission. In 2012, the Georgia Legislature through SB 489 amended SB 60 and

thus O.G.C.G 31 -11- 100 to require annual reporting of Commission's

activities to both House and Senate Committees on Health and Human Services.

Trauma continues to be the leading cause of death between the ages of 1-44.

Overall injury is the 4th leading cause of death in the Unites States, but

life-years lost are greater from injury than from 3 other leading causes of

death combined, which are heart disease, cancer, and stroke. The grant funds

will be used to purchase equipment that will be used to better equip Columbus

Fire and EMS in the treatment of trauma patients.

Analysis: The state is providing the funds for the purchase of trauma

equipment.

Financial Considerations: The grant is for equipment that will enhance the

treatment of the trauma patient amounting to $26,353.10, with no matching funds

required.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None

Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to

receive these funds.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution to accept a grant of

$26,353.10 from the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission.
