SUBJECT: 2015 Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission Grant
INITIATED BY: Columbus Fire and EMS Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a grant of $26,353.10 from
Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission by like amount.
Background: Funds have been allocated to the Georgia Association of EMS
from the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission for administration to Columbus
Fire and EMS for the purchase of trauma equipment. In 2007, the Georgia
Legislature through Senate Bill 60 established the Georgia Trauma Care Network
Commission. In 2012, the Georgia Legislature through SB 489 amended SB 60 and
thus O.G.C.G 31 -11- 100 to require annual reporting of Commission's
activities to both House and Senate Committees on Health and Human Services.
Trauma continues to be the leading cause of death between the ages of 1-44.
Overall injury is the 4th leading cause of death in the Unites States, but
life-years lost are greater from injury than from 3 other leading causes of
death combined, which are heart disease, cancer, and stroke. The grant funds
will be used to purchase equipment that will be used to better equip Columbus
Fire and EMS in the treatment of trauma patients.
Analysis: The state is providing the funds for the purchase of trauma
equipment.
Financial Considerations: The grant is for equipment that will enhance the
treatment of the trauma patient amounting to $26,353.10, with no matching funds
required.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to
receive these funds.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution to accept a grant of
$26,353.10 from the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission.
A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT OF $26,353.10 FROM
THE GEORGIA TRAUMA CARE NETWORK COMMISSION. FUNDS WILL BE UTILIZED FOR THE
PURCHASE OF TRAUMA EQUIPMENT TO AID THE CITIZENS OF COLUMBUS AND SURROUNDING
COUNTIES. TRAUMA IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 1-44.
OVERALL INJURY IS THE 4TH LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT LIFE
YEARS LOST ARE GREATER FROM INJURY THAN FROM THREE OTHER CAUSES OF DEATH, HEART
DISEASE, CANCER AND STROKE.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services has been approved by
the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission to receive $26,353.10 of grant
monies; and,
WHEREAS, the purchase of trauma equipment will enhance the delivery of trauma
services by Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services; and,
WHEREAS, the funds have been allocated through the 2015 Georgia Trauma Care
Network Commission Grant; and,
WHEREAS, the equipment will be utilized to respond to trauma emergencies to
Columbus and the surrounding counties; and,
WHEREAS, this grant proposal requires no matching funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
1) That the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a Georgia Trauma
Care Network Commission Grant of $26,353.10.
2) Amend the budget if needed through increasing the Multi-Governmental
Fund by $26,353.10 or the actual amount funded.
