The term of office of Ms. Joan Cheves on the Cooperative Extension
Advisory Board will expire on December 31, 2011. She is not eligible to succeed
herself, as this will be the end of her second full term of office on the
board. Also, we still need to fill the seat of Mr. Junie Christian who was a
member of the board, but is no longer a resident of Muscogee County and his
term of office on the board has also expired.
Members of this board are nominated and confirmed by the Council.
Including the seat currently held by Ms. Cheves, and the seat which was
held by Mr. Christian, there are three members who reside in Senatorial
District 29, and two who reside in Senatorial District 15.
There are currently two (2) women serving on this board.
Enclosed is a copy of our data sheet, as well as a list of the current
members.

TERMS OF OFFICE: Five years.
POWERS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Repealed Columbus Charter Section 4-613
provided that this board would serve in an advisory capacity to the Department
of Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Georgia Extension
Service for the consideration of policies of the department and recommendations
for its administration and program development throughout the community.
COMPENSATION: No authority found for the compensation of the members.

Charge/Mission: Section 4-613 of the original charter of the Consolidated
Government provided that this board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the
Department of Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Georgia
Extension Service for the consideration of policies of the department and
recommendations for its administration and program development throughout the
community. Even though this original charter section was repealed in 1980, the
board continues to function. It has five members which are appointed by the
Columbus Council. (Columbus Charter, Sec. 4-613, which was repeal in 1980)
