MINUTES
September 30, 2015
Frank Chester Recreation Center

Members Present: Carl Brown, Irene Pate, Willie Dickerson, Mike Peacock
Members Absent: Tracy Belt, Vanessa Jackson, Andre Dye, Derrick Greene
City Staff Present: Teresa Snellings, Becky Glisson, Tommy Groce
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Irene Pate at 12:09
Roll was taken.
There were not enough members for a quorum to approve the minutes of August 26,
2015.
Tim Marshall, Director of Frank Chester Recreation Center, introduced his staff
and advised the board of various upcoming programs at the center.
Director/Staff Update
Becky Glisson (Finance): James and Holli are both out of town for department
reasons.
Bob Johnson has resigned his position with the board. James has requested
through the Clerk of Council office that he be replaced.
For those of you who knew her, former Assistant City Attorney, Jamie DeLoach
passed away yesterday after a long illness.
October 16-18 we are having a swim meet at the Aquatic Center if you would like
to come out and see how the pool works.
Once again, our budget analyst is no longer with the City. We will try again
to bring one to the meeting when we get a new one.
Teresa Snellings (Recreation Services): October 2-3 we are participating in
Help the Hooch.
October 5-11 we will shut down the gymnasiums due to our yearly floor
stripping. This will not affect the Senior Centers.
We are getting ready for various Fall Festivals at the different centers.
James, Lisa Castile, Chris Bass and I went to NRPA last week in Las Vegas. We
learned a lot and brought back a lot of good information.
We are having issues at Comer with people cutting the fence and coming in and
stealing batteries and catalytic converters. We are working on solutions for
that.
Seniors and the TR group are going to the Special Day for Special People picnic
at West Point.
Tommy Groce (Park Services): We are going full steam ahead with fall programs
as best as we can with the weather.
Fall softball league has started
Adult Baseball has started at Golden Park
Youth football has started at various parks
Fall Baseball has started at Northern
Pioneer is doing their fall league
Tuskegee/Morehouse is next Saturday with kick off at 2pm at Memorial Stadium
Fountain City Classic is in November.
Georgia High School State Softball Championships ends on Saturday.
I will be traveling soon to the ASA convention where they will be bidding on
various tournaments.
Updates from the Board:
Mike Peacock : Fall baseball and youth football has started in his area.
Just wants to mention that Kinnett Stadium turf looks really good.
Carl Brown: Just wants to thank Tommy and crew for doing such a good job on
the Black Softball Tournament. Everything went great and they love having it
at our facilities.
Willie Dickerson: Nothing to report.
Irene Pate: Britt David Pottery Studio is working on their trash project for
Help the Hooch.
They are rocking along with a lot of classes and are getting ready for the sale
the first of December.
With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
Our next meeting will be October 28th at Boxwood Recreation Center.
