Agenda Report # 161

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: A Miracle in the City Foundation Lease Agreement

INITIATED BY: Department of Community Reinvestment

______________________________________________________________

Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a three year lease

agreement with A Miracle in the City Foundation for the Primus King Recreation

Center, 2604 Staunton Drive a/k/a 090 010 028 Columbus, Georgia.

Background: In 1998, Primus King Recreation Center was closed and the

activities were consolidated into the new Recreation Supercenters. The A

Miracle in the City Foundation (M.I.C.) is requesting to reopen the center to

provide recreational, educational and community support programs. M.I.C. has

agreed to provide the cost of the rehabilitation of the center and all

maintenance and upkeep of the facilities under the terms of the lease. The

centers will be open to all citizens of the community.

Analysis: The City no longer has a use for the recreation center. The

reopening of the center by M.I.C. will benefit the community with the

additional recreational and educational opportunities. The term of the lease

agreement will be for 3 years at $1 per year. The lease will contain 3

three-year renewal terms with Council approval of each term.

Financial Considerations: No impact to the operating budget.

Legal Considerations: The City Attorney has reviewed the lease and agrees as

to form.

Recommendations: Approval is requested to enter into a three year lease
