MINUTES # 38-07
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, October 1, 2007 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard
Stallings, Ann Grantham and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief
Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#37-07; Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion; motion carried unanimously.
The Board signed assessment corrections for real estate.
Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton informed the Board that the Change of
Assessment Notices for the Public Utilities were received on September 28, 2007.
Met with Rev. Page, Mr. Cook, Mr. Covington and Mr. Francis representing Holsey
Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church requesting non-taxability for
property located at 820 8th Street (Parcel ID 019 025 001). They said on
January 1, 2007 the church was using the building for youth activities and as a
Christian education center. Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to grant
non-taxability for 2007; Assessor Richard Stallings seconded it, motion
carried.
Met with Mr. Johnson, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Whitaker representing New Providence
Baptist Church Inc. requesting non-taxability for properties located at 5212
13th Ave; 5207 14th Ave; 5208 13th Ave; and 1314 Alexander St (Parcel ID 033
012 004, 008, 005 and 015). They said all lots are vacant and used for church
activities and overflow parking. They said one lot has a shed on it, which is
used for storage of equipment that is used to maintain the property. Assessor
Lawton Grantham made the motion to grant tax exempt status for these properties
for 2007; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion; motion carried.

Discussed meeting with the Development Authority and Economic Development. The
date suggested by them is not suitable for the Board of Tax Assessors. The
Board asked the Chief Appraiser to advice the Development Authority and
Economic Development that they would meet with them when it is more convenient
for them.
