SUBJECT: Disc Golf Course at Dinglewood Park
INITIATED BY: Parks and Recreation
Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a donation from MidTown, Inc.,
for installation of a nine-hole disc golf course in Dinglewood Park.
Background: The mission of MidTown, Inc., is to sustain and enhance the
neighborhoods and businesses within MidTown Columbus. With the endorsement of
surrounding businesses and residents of the adjacent historic district, and
unanimous the Board of Historical and Architecture Review (BHAR) approval,
MidTown, Inc., will fund and oversee installation of a nine-hole disc golf
course within the park.
Analysis: The disc golf course is designed with respect to the historic and
natural character of Dinglewood Park and is a low-impact, family-friendly
activity that will add recreational opportunity in the area.
Financial Considerations: The value of the equipment and installation that
MidTown, Inc., will gift to the City is approximately $7,500 to $10,000. This
will be at no cost to the City as it is a donation.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The value of the equipment and
installation that MidTown, Inc., will gift to the City is approximately $7,500
to $10,000. This will be at no cost to the City as it is a donation.
Legal Considerations: Council must approve the acceptance of this donation.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to accept donation of a gift
from MidTown, Inc. to install a nine-hole disc golf course in Dinglewood Park.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A DONATION FROM MIDTOWN,
INC., FOR INSTALLATION OF A NINE-HOLE DISC GOLF COURSE IN DINGLEWOOD PARK.
WHEREAS, the mission of MidTown, Inc., is to sustain and enhance the
neighborhoods and businesses within MidTown Columbus. With the endorsement of
surrounding businesses and residents of the adjacent historic district, and
unanimous approval of the Board of Historic and Architecture Review (BHAR),
MidTown, Inc., will fund and oversee installation of a nine-hole disc golf
course within the park. The disc golf course is designed with respect to the
historic and natural character of Dinglewood Park, a low-impact,
family-friendly activity that will add recreational opportunity in the area;
and,
WHEREAS, the Dinglewood Golf Course would afford a low-impact, family-friendly
recreational use of the wooded Dinglewood Park, a use in keeping with the
historic naturalized character of the park and adjacent historic district, and
will complement the neighborhood commercial center at the Village on 13th
Street. The course would enhance connectivity between Dinglewood and
Lakebottom Parks, and provide the community with a family-friendly activity new
to the area; and,
WHEREAS, the value of the equipment and installation that MidTown, Inc. will
gift to the City is approximately $7,500 to $10,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to accept
gift for Dinglewood Park from MidTown, Inc., in the estimated amount of $7,500
to $10,000 to install a disc golf course at Dinglewood Park.
