Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

Agenda Report #_____

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: Parking Restrictions on Talokas Lane

INITIATED BY: Department of Engineering ? Traffic Engineering Division

Recommendation: Approve the attached ordinance that establishes a ?No

Parking Anytime? zone for the northernmost 455 feet of Talokas Lane along its

western curb.

Background: Talokas Lane provides access for semi-trucks to the rear loading

docks at the Walmart Supercenter on Gateway Drive. Many drivers park their

trucks along the western side of Talokas Lane while waiting to load or unload

at Walmart. The parked trucks restrict visibility for vehicles exiting the

commercial strip center on the western side of Talokas Lane, as they are unable

to see other trucks traveling south from the Walmart loading docks.

Analysis: A ?No Parking Anytime? zone is needed along the western side of

Talokas Lane to retain the proper intersection sight distance for vehicles

exiting the adjacent commercial strip center.

Financial Considerations: All costs to fabricate and install the ?No Parking

Anytime? signs shall come from the Traffic Engineering Division?s operating

budget.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: All costs to repair/replace

vandalized or damaged signs shall come from the Traffic Engineering Division?s

operating budget.

Legal Considerations: All traffic ordinances require Council approval.

Recommendations/Actions: Approve the proposed ?No Parking Anytime? ordinance

for Talokas

Lane.
