MINUTES # 09-09
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, March 9, 2009 at
9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Richard Stallings, Assessor
Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also
present was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.
Assessor Pat Hunter made the motion to approve Min#08-09. Assessor Ann Grantham
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.
The Board also reviewed and approved VA letters of application for VA homestead
exemptions for 2009 (Parcel Ids 184 006 004 05 and 051 007 006).
The Board reviewed an application for tax exemption and the recommendations
from the appraisal staff concerning property located at 2010 Westminster Way
(Parcel ID 188 029 040). Assessor Ann Grantham made the motion to grant tax
exempt status for 2009; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded the motion; motion carried.
Met with Mr. Orsini representing Enrichment Services Program Inc. requesting
non-taxability for properties located at 4627 Holly Ave (Parcel ID 032 040 012)
and 2100 12th Ave (Parcel ID 028 022 003) Mr. Orsini said the property located
at 2100 12th Ave (Parcel ID 028 022 003) is used for distributing food and
energy funds. He said they receive their funding from the State and Federal
Headstart Program and Community Block Grants. Assessor Ann Grantham made the
motion to grant tax exempt status for Parcel ID 028 022 003 for 2009; Assessor
Pat Hunter seconded the motion, motion carried. The decision for Parcel ID 032
040 012 was delayed until reviewed by staff to verify that a modular building
is located on the property.
Met with Mr. Brown representing Royal Palm Masonic Lodge requesting
non-taxability for the property located at 2630 Spenola Dr ( Parcel ID 049 002
013). Mr. Brown stated the building was vacant and they are unable to hold
meetings there. He supplied the Board with copies of the Charter, Articles of
Incorporation and By-Laws. Decision delayed until application is received.
Met with Residential Division Manager Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

Res Div Mgr Bob O?Brien discussed with the Board a possible valuation for a
lake, where adjoining owners had purchased property for enjoyment of the lake.
Met with Commercial Division Manager Linda King, reviewed and approved the
