Campaign Updates

Good Afternoon,

Qualifying for the 2006 election season ended last week, after a Judge ordered

an extended qualifying period for 16 legislative districts. This 'extra

time' resulted in the addition of five additional candidates. Newly

contested and notable races will include: (1) Rep. Mickey Channell

(R-Greensboro), who recently switched parties, will be challenged by in the

general election, and Rep. Bob Smith (R-Watkinsville) drew last-minute

opposition.

There will be fewer contested legislative races this year than there were in

the previous two election cycles, when back-to-back redistricting plans were in

effect.

In the Senate, 25 of the 56 members will not have opposition. In the House of

Representatives, 102 of the 180 members don?t have opposition. Of the total

237 seats in the Georgia Legislature, 127 seats have already been determined

(almost 54%).

Two more legislators, Rep McClinton (D-Atlanta) and Rep. Mike Barnes

(D-Hampton), by virtue of not qualifying, 'announced' that they will not be

seeking reelection.

Below, please find a breakdown of summer and fall Races.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any one of us.
