WHEREAS, Mr. James Allen McMullen, Sr. was born July 23, 1940 in Columbus,
Georgia to Allen and Eddie Mae McMullen;
WHEREAS, Mr. McMullen attended Rosemont Elementary School and was a 1958
graduate of Jordan Vocational High School;
WHEREAS, he also worked in his father?s business, McMullen Garage and Service
Station located on Andrews Road, learning life lessons from a young age;
WHEREAS, he attended Georgia Southwestern College and served in the U.S. Army
in Germany; returning from Europe in 1961 and in 1964 he graduated from the
Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science;
WHEREAS, he worked at Striffler Hamby Mortuary from 1961-1985 and his love of
politics positioned him to work for Congressman Richard Ray, 3rd District of
Georgia from 1985-1987;
Whereas, Mr. McMullen opened McMullen Funeral Home in 1987 and has served as a
member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes, the Georgia Funeral Directors
Association and the National Funeral Directors Association;
WHEREAS, he recently received his 50-year anniversary pin in recognition of his
outstanding contributions to the funeral home profession;
WHEREAS, in 40 years of Lions Club service he accomplished the following: Lion
of the Year in 1973, District 18-E Governor of Lions International in 1976,
Chairman of the Georgia Site Conservation Committee, Chaired Georgia Lions
Lighthouse for the Blind Foundation; served on the Board of Directors of the
Peach Bowl (now Chick-Fil-A Bowl)
WHEREAS, he Chaired the Lions Club Washington, D.C. educational trip for over
36 years; giving unselfishly to thousands of children and providing life
lessons in respect, patience, safety first and working together.
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Mr. James Allen McMullen, Sr. are worthy of
special recognition by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Mr. James Allen McMullen, Sr. upon
his 50-plus years of service to the funeral home profession in Columbus,
Georgia. His service to his country and his boundless compassion to Columbus
families will long be remembered. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. James Allen McMullen, Sr.

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the
16th day of June, 2015, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
