SUBJECT: Homeland Security Grant
INITIATED BY: Office of Homeland Security
Recommendation: Approval is requested to accept a grant in the amount of
$34,643 from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for the Department of
Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2018 Homeland Security Grant Program for the
purchase of Explosive Device Response Operations equipment and amend the
Multi-Government Fund by the award amount.
Background: Funds have been allocated to the State of Georgia to protect
against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters, and
other emergencies in accordance with the goals and objectives of the State
Strategic Plan. The Columbus Office of Homeland Security is eligible for
$34,643.
Analysis: These funds will vastly improve our capability to prevent, protect
against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters, and
other emergencies within Muscogee County and the surrounding area.
Financial Considerations: There are no matching funds required for this grant.
The funds will be utilized for equipment for the Columbus, Georgia Hazardous
Devices Respond Team.
Legal Considerations: There are no legal obligations and the Consolidated
Government of Columbus is eligible to receive the funds.
Recommendation/Action: Accept the grant of $34,643 from the Georgia Emergency
Management Agency for the Department of Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2018
Homeland Security Grant Program.
A RESOLUTION
NO. ______
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT OF $34,643.00 OR AS
OTHERWISE AWARDED, FROM THE 2018 HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM AND AMEND THE
MULTI-GOVERNMENTAL FUND BY LIKE AMOUNT. THESE FUNDS WILL BE UTILIZED FOR THE
PURPOSE OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE HAZARDOUS DEVICES RESPONSE TEAM TO PREVENT,
RESPOND TO AND RECOVER FROM TERRORIST ATTACKS, MAJOR DISASTERS AND OTHER
EMERGENCIES.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Office of Homeland Security has been approved by the
Governors office to fund the Hazardous Devices response team; and,
WHEREAS, the purchase of the requested equipment in the grant proposal will
greatly enhance the current emergency response program; and,
WHEREAS, the funds have been allocated and approved through the 2018 Homeland
Security Grant Program; and,
WHEREAS, the equipment will be utilized to respond to acts of terrorism and
other emergencies in Columbus and the surrounding counties and,
WHEREAS, this grant proposal requires no matching funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
