THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY
MINUTES OF MEETING
April 24, 2007
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Floyd Washington, Donald Clack, Nancy
Wilkeson, Richard Hagler, Aubry Burt and June Holder. Staff members present
were John Milam and Steve Brown. Nan Hopkins, Willie Hill and Michael
Silverstein had an excused absence.
Minutes of the March 27, 2007 meeting were approved as presented. Motion made
by Donald Clack and seconded by Aubry Burt.
Old Business
Nancy Wilkeson asked Mr. Milam when the addition to the pavilion would begin.
Since the concrete and labor are being donated, we are at the mercy of their
schedule. They will also pour concrete on 1 East to make a turn-around.
Mr. Milam and Mr. Hagler will try to schedule a meeting with the mayor
regarding the retirement plan for the prison guards.
New Business
Columbus State University?s Golf Coach, Mark Immelman, is requesting a $50,000
to $60,000 prefab building to the installed on the teaching facility site.
This building will replace the existing structure. The authority members
requested a brochure of the building before giving approval.
Mr. Floyd Washington brought up three concerns at Oxbow Creek. First, the
token machine to dispense range balls does not work. The staff at Oxbow Creek
prefers to dispense range balls from the pro shop because ?other? tokens not
purchased at the golf course will fit the machine and dispense balls.
Secondly, the restrooms are not available to golfers when the pro shop closes
at 7 p.m. and golfers are on the course or driving range till dark. Mr. Milam
will re-install a port-a-let to correct this matter. Lastly, Mr. Washington
feels there is no accountability for paying green fees. Some golfers take
advantage by paying for 9 holes and playing 27-36 holes of golf. It should
not be up to the marshal to check the receipts. The staff will need to do a
better job of monitoring those individuals who take advantage of this situation.
June Holder brought up her concern about one of the weekend drink cart workers
at Bull Creek. She brings her small son to ride with her in the cart while she
works. This is a liability problem and Mr. Milam will take care of this
situation.
Superintendent Report by Steve Brown
The cold weather over Easter Weekend has hampered the ?greening up? and growth
of the course. Fertilizer was applied to fairways this past week. The new
Jacobsen greens mower was delivered.
One truck needs a new transmission and the van needs front-end work. The City
does not have any vehicles that we could swap with them. A new prison guard
could be available to work as early as July. The next training session will
begin the first of next month.
Godwin Creek
No report available. Revenue is up.
Director of Golf
Bull Creek and Oxbow Creek revenues for 2007 compared to this time last year
are up. Revenue for the month of March is higher as well. It is the product
of warm weather. The expenses for Bull Creek are somewhat higher. $9,500 was
for cost allocation and $23,800 for the new greens mower.
Donald Clack relayed to Mr. Milam and the authority members that Mr. Randy
Aman, from Aflac, had a great time with the tournament held last Saturday. He
stated the course was in excellent shape.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:19 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Wilkeson, Secretary
