The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, June 13, 2007,

at 2:00PM with, Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard

Stallings, Ann Grantham, and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief

Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.



Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to approve Minutes #23-07, Assessor Pat

Hunter seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously



The Board approved an assessment correction for real estate.



The Board reviewed the information resulting from a field review for parcel ID

185 022 020 and concurred with the Tax Commissioner?s Office removal of

homestead exemption for 2007.



Met with Mrs. Arnold representing The Saving House, Inc. concerning a request

for non-taxability for Parcel ID 015 027 027. Mrs. Arnold stated the property

is used for camp-outs and spiritual talks. She said the program counsels

participants in parenting, budgeting, finances and job interviews. The Board

requested Mrs. Arnold to furnish copies of the Articles of Incorporation and

the By-laws.



Met with Mr. Shavers, Mr. Bank and Mr. Williams representing Wynnton Hill

Baptist Church regarding a request for non-taxability for Parcel ID 051 039

010. They stated they purchased the property in 2003, but due to the attorney

not filing the legal description with the deed, it failed to get transferred

into the church?s name. They said the property was used for parking as far as

the property allowed it. The application was not signed. The Board delayed

action.



Mrs. McCullars representing the Tax Commissioner?s Office appeared before the

Board concerning the removal of homestead exemption for Parcel ID 063 010 005.

Mrs. McCullars gave the Board a brief overview why the Tax Commissioner?s

Office removed the homestead exemption.



Met with Mrs. Joseph and Mrs. Monigan regarding the removal of homestead

exemption for Parcel ID 063 010 005 for 2006. Mrs. Joseph stated that she and

George Joseph were not living together. She said she lives in her house and he

lives in his house, which is receiving homestead exemption . The Board

explained to Mrs. Joseph that only one homestead exemption could be granted per

family.

The Board took no action.



Met with Attorney Hargrove to further discuss pending litigation.

Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the

Com Div Chief Linda King told the Board about conversations she had with an

attorney representing potential purchasers of Columbus Park Crossing and

Attorney Sprouse with the Development Authority of Columbus regarding

assumption of bond. The Board requested a meeting with Attorney Sprouse to

discuss the matter.



Met with Personal Property Division Chief Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved

the following:



Assessment Corrections: 2(+)



The Board directed Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton to contact City Attorney

Clifton Fay to ask Attorney Lomax to move forward with the Total System

Services account to go to court; so Pers Prop Div Chief Oliver Juhan can let

him know what documents are needed.
