A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, during Hurricane Gustav, Calvary Baptist Church in partnership with
the Columbus Red Cross hosted a shelter for hurricane evacuees;
WHEREAS, Calvary Christian School was home for 80 evacuees fleeing the wrath of
this storm;
WHEREAS, the shelter operated by the West Central Georgia Chapter of the Red
Cross provided care for those escaping the New Orleans area;
WHEREAS, the Calvary Christian School shelter had a capacity of 400 people
during such a natural disaster;
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the members of Calvary Baptist Church, Calvary
Christian School and other volunteers are worthy of special recognition by this
Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend the members of Calvary Baptist Church and other volunteers
including the West Central Georgia Chapter of the Red Cross for providing food
and shelter to 80 evacuees fleeing Hurricane Gustav as it approached New
Orleans. Columbus is proud of these volunteers and we wish them every success
in the future. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Calvary Baptist
Church, Calvary Christian School and the West Central Georgia Chapter of the
Red Cross.
