Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

Agenda Report # 46

TO: Mayor and Council

SUBJECT: Contract Amendment with Brasfield & Gorrie L.L.C. for

Riverwalk Repair

INITIATED BY: Donna W. Newman, Director of Engineering

Recommendation: Approval is requested to amend a contract with Brasfield &

Gorrie, L.L.C. for miscellaneous repair work identified by City staff along

the Riverwalk from the Eagle Phenix Mill area to the Trade Center.

Background: There are several specialized repair type work items that

are needed along the Riverwalk between the Eagle Phenix Mill area and the Trade

Center, approximately from 9th Street to 12th Street. This includes but is

not limited to painting of railing and other appurtenances, concrete/ masonry

repair work, electrical work, replacing broken items, etc. It is the City's

desire to get the area restored to its former condition for the many citizens

and visitors that will using it for recreation and observation purposes for the

Chattahoochee White Water events.

Analysis: Brasfield & Gorrie, L.L.C. is currently under a "GM/GC" contract

with the City for construction of the City Service Center Complex. They are

also currently doing construction work on the Eagle Phenix Mill Project. The

rationale for selection of this contractor is they are already doing work in

the vicinity and this minimizes conflict of two contractors working in the same

limited space. This would also save the City cost of mobilizing a new

contractor and aids in expediting the project prior to initiation of

Chattahoochee White Water Events scheduled to begin Memorial Day weekend.

Financial Considerations: Funds are available in the General Fund CIP. The

cost has been estimated not to exceed $100,000.

Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: Public Works and Parks and

Recreation departments currently do not have expertise and resources to do work

in the time frame needed.

Legal Considerations: The City Attorney must approve the amendment to the

contract.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to

amend the contract with Brasfield & Gorrie, L.L.C. for miscellaneous repair

work identified by City staff along Riverwalk from Eagle Phenix Mill area to

the Trade Center.
