A RESOLUTION
No.
WHEREAS, Columbus native Frank Thomas recently retired after 20 spectacular
seasons in major league baseball;
WHEREAS, in an era of performance-enhancing drug news reports, the ?Big Hurt?
played the game the way it was intended to be played and has served as a true
role model for young Americans;
WHEREAS, Thomas attended Columbus High School and Auburn University and was a
star athlete at each institution;
WHEREAS, as a Chicago White Sox player, he amassed a .301 career batting
average, a .419 on-base average, and 521 home runs (tying Ted Williams and
Willie McCovey for home runs);
WHEREAS, he was twice named the American League?s Most Valuable Player, won the
batting title in 1997, and helped lead Chicago to the World Series in 2005, the
franchise?s first championship in almost a century;
WHEREAS, the Chicago White Sox will retire his No. 35 before a game in Chicago
on August 29, 2010;
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Frank Thomas are worthy of special recognition
by this Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
We hereby commend and congratulate Chicago White Sox player and Columbus native
Frank Thomas upon his retirement after 20 years in Major League Baseball.
Columbus is proud of his achievements and we wish him every success in the
future. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded to ?Big Hurt? Frank Thomas.

9th day of March, 2010, and adopted at said meeting by the affirmative vote of
