WHEREAS, Mr. John W. Denney, Sr. died in Midland, Georgia on November 10, 2012;



WHEREAS, Mr. Denney was the senior partner at the law firm of Denney, Pease

Allison & Kirk in Columbus, Georgia;



WHEREAS, he was past president of the Columbus Bar Association, member of the

State Bar of Georgia, American Bar Association, American Judicature Society,

and Fellow in the American College of Elite Trial Lawyers;

WHEREAS, Mr. Denney attended Mercer University receiving a BA degree in 1956

and Bachelor of Laws degree in 1957;

WHEREAS, he also received the Tradition of Excellence Award from the State Bar

of Georgia in 1997 and was named as Georgia Trial Lawyer of the Year by the

American Board of Trial Advocates in 2000;

WHEREAS, Mr. Denney worked for many years on behalf of Columbus, Georgia on

matters involving civil litigation and as a special counsel to the Columbus

Risk Manager;

WHEREAS, he will always be known as a lawyers? lawyer and enjoyed mentoring

younger lawyers throughout his long and distinguished career;

WHEREAS, he is pre-deceased by a son John William Denney, Jr. and is survived

by his wife of 56 years, Loma Greene Denney, Midland, GA, his daughter, Judith

Denney Hollington (Larry Neal Hollington) Augusta, GA, his son, Clifford

Michael Denney (Monika Irene Denney) Buford, GA, his grandson, Capt. John

William Denney, III (Libby Bain Denney) stationed at Hohenfels, Germany,

granddaughter, Sara Lauren Hollington, grandson, William Neal Hollington, great

granddaughters, Cora Parker Denney and Morgen Elizabeth Denney,

daughter-in-law, Kelly Hynes Denney, Cape Cod, MA, sister, Shirley Denney

Armstrong, Dothan, AL, brother, Carl E. Denney, Lawrenceville, GA, and a number

of nieces and nephews.

NOW THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:

We hereby express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of

Mr. John W. Denney, Sr. His service to the Columbus community, the State Bar of

Georgia and the Consolidated Government will long be remembered. Let a copy of

this Resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. John W. Denney, Sr.
