An Ordinance amending vehicular traffic in Columbus, Georgia by

increasing fines for parking violations and repealing conflicting Ordinances;

and for other purposes.

THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY ORDAINS:



SECTION 1.



Section 20-16.11 of the Columbus Code is hereby deleted in its entirety and a

new Section 20-16.11 is substituted to read as follows:



?It shall be unlawful to park vehicles in parking spaces for a period longer

than the time marked for such spaces, and violators shall incur fines of $17.00

effective July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011; and, $20.00 effective July 1,

2011, when paid within ten days of the citation; for violations where fines are

not paid within ten days, the fine shall double for each offense. If an

offender proceeds to Recorder?s Court and if convicted by the Recorder,

offenders shall be subject to fines or imprisonment or both in the discretion

of the Recorder.?



SECTION 2.



Section 20-14.15 entitled ?Handicapped parking areas? of the Columbus Code is

hereby amended by adding a new subsection (5) to read as follows:



?(5) Any person violating this Ordinance shall pay a fine of $200.00.

If an offender proceeds to Recorder?s Court and if convicted by the Recorder,

offenders shall be subject to imprisonment and court costs and fines not to

exceed the statutory maximum set forth at O.C.G.A. ?40-6-226, which is

currently established at $500.00.?

Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia held on the

8th day of June, 2010, introduced a second time at a regular meeting of said
