Agenda Item # 1
Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Meeting
08/27/2013
Agenda Report # 17
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Neighborworks Columbus Cottage Program
INITIATED BY: Amy Carbajal, Community Reinvestment
Recommendation: Approval is requested for the Addendum to the Memorandum of
Understanding between Columbus Consolidated Government and Neighborworks
Columbus to allocate $40,000 in UDAG funds for the latest Cottage Program
recipient.
Background: In July 2008, the City Council approved a Memorandum of
Understanding between the City and Neighborworks Columbus to assist in the
creation and funding of the Columbus Cottage Program. Since that time,
Neighborworks has been very successful in providing homes to our city's most
needy elderly population. Five recipients have been housed and Neighborworks
has exhausted the original allocation of $150,000. The sixth recipient has
been identified and Neighborworks is in need of funds to complete the home.
They are requesting $40,000 in UDAG funds. An addendum to the original MOU has
been drafted to facilitate the allocation of funds.
Analysis: The cottage program removes a blighted residential structure from
the neighborhood and provides a safe, sanitary residential opportunity for an
elderly individual. It is a positive investment in our community.
Financial Considerations: The $40,000 is available in the UDAG account.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: None
Legal Considerations: Council approved the City's participation in the project
on July 15, 2008.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the Addendum to the Memorandum of
Understanding between Columbus Consolidated Government and Neighborworks
Columbus to allocate $40,000 in UDAG funds for the latest Cottage Program
recipient.
