MINUTES # 05-09





The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, February 9, 2009 at

9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Richard Stallings, Assessor

Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also

present was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.



Assessor Richard Stallings made the motion to approve Min#04-09. Assessor

Lawton Grantham seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The Board also reviewed and approved VA letters of application for VA homestead

exemptions for 2009 (095 021 010, 093 012 073 and 090 019 002). The Board

reviewed the VA letter for Parcel ID 088 021 063; Assessor Lawton Grantham made

the motion to deny the VA exemption since the Veteran resides out of State;

Assessor Pat Hunter seconded it, motion carried.





Met with Pastor Oliver representing Grant Chapel AME Church, Inc. requesting

non-taxability for property located on Cusseta Road (Parcel ID 040 024 007).

Assessor Ann Grantham made the motion to grant tax exempt status for 2009;

Assessor Pat Hunter seconded it; motion carried.



Met with Pastor Johnson representing Gateway Assemblies of God, Inc. requesting

non-taxability for property located at 3702 Buena Vista Rd (Parcel ID 087 036

003). Assessor Pat Hunter made a motion to grant tax exempt status for 2009;

Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion; motion carried.



Met with Mrs. Daniel regarding her personal property account # 06022101. Mrs.

Daniel said she purchased a business license in 1999 to do drafting and

computer work. She said she closed her business license in 2000 and did not

receive any correspondence due to her family situation. Tax bills are

outstanding for 2000 and 2001. Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion to

delete the fair market value for 2001 as being erroneously assessed; Assessor

Ann Grantham seconded the motion; motion carried.
