Columbus Consolidated Government
Council Memorandum
TO: Mayor and Councilors DATE: 01/05/2007
FROM: Isaiah Hugley, City Manager SUBJECT: Referrals for 12/19/06
Please see responses to the referrals from December 19, 2006 Council Meetings
below.
GOD Bless Fort Benning Video:
Due to the technical difficulty during the December 19, 2006 Council meeting
and not being able to show the God Bless Fort Benning video, let?s air it on
CCG-TV to allow the citizens to view this event. (Request of Councilor Woodson)
Response ?Please see report attached.
Concerns of Rosa Medlin:
Have one of the Deputy City Managers to sit down and meet with Ms. Rosa Medlin
to listen to her concerns and determine what can be done to assist her with her
transportation needs of the Dial-A-Road program. (Request of Mayor Poydasheff)
Response ?Please see report attached.
METRA Transportation:
To assist us in addressing the concerns of Ms. Medlin, let?s have the staff to
bring an overlay of the map of the Dial-A-Ride program back to the Council
during the January Work Session so that we can understand who qualifies, who
doesn?t qualify and where the boundaries are. (Request of Councilor Henderson)
Also, have the staff to do a complete look at the Dial-A-Ride program and let?s
do a survey to determine what kind of usage we would have from individuals that
need to go to specific places; especially the disabled individuals. (Request
of Councilor Turner Pugh)
Have the staff to also discuss this issue with the Garrison Commander to
determine what assets Fort Benning has to pickup people from the main bus
station to the PX, Commissary and Martin Army Hospital. (Request of Mayor
Poydasheff)
Response ?Please see report attached.
Library Project Management:
When the issue of the request for additional services for the Library Project
Management comes back before this Council, we need to make sure that everything
that they are asking for falls under Question 2, what the voters approved.
(Request of Councilor Turner Pugh)
Response ?Staff is working on this referral and will provide a response.
Abandoned Signs:
Have the staff to bring back information as to what is the penalty for those
persons who fails to come into compliance with regards to abandoned signs.
(Request of Councilor Woodson)
Response ?Staff has contacted Councilor Woodson regarding this concern. We
will continue to work on this referral and provide a report.
Cleaning of Creeks:
If there is a cost associated with the cleaning of creeks, and cutting down
weeds, instead of continuing to tell people that we can?t do something, let?s
look at bringing these issues before the Council and allow them to make a
decision as to whether or not they want these things taken care of or not. When
the staff brings back the assessment of all the different creeks and what
resources will be required to maintain them, let?s make sure we bring back
something that is doable. (Request of Councilor Turner Pugh)
Response ?Please see report attached.
Actuarial Report:
Have the staff to provide a status report on where we are with the actuarial
report, with respect to moving the retirement from 45% back up to 60%. (Request
of Councilor Allen)
Response ?We expect to have this report in February or March timeframe during
the budget process.
Retirement Plans:
Have the staff to bring a presentation to a Council Work Session on the
retirement plans in order that we can know what is included in each of the
retirement plans. (Request of Councilor Turner Pugh)
Response ?Please see report attached.
Internal Auditor:
Have the staff to provide a copy of the job description for the Internal
Auditor/Compliance Officer to the members of Council. (Request of Councilor
Henderson)
Response ?Please see report attached.
