Subject: (REZN-08-15-1669) Request to amend the text of the Unified Development
Ordinance (UDO) in regards to The Definition of Cultural Facility and permitted
uses table 3.1.1.
UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE REVISIONS
The Columbus Botanical Gardens was created with a joint state (Columbus
Technical College) partnership. The Columbus Botanical Gardens later became a
separate non for-profit and obtained its current land holding from the state.
The Columbus Botanical Gardens is currently zoned RO (Residential Office).
These changes will make the Botanical Gardens a legal permitted use within the
RO zoning district.
The definition of Cultural Facilities does not include Botanical Gardens. This
updated definition under code section 13.1.1 will include Botanical Gardens and
the adjusted zoning districts in table 3.1.1 to allow for its placement within
RO and LMI (Light Manufacturing & Industrial).

Sec. 13.1.1 Cultural Facility Definition
Old ? Means: a public, private, or not for profit facility that provides
cultural services, including but not limited to an art gallery, library, or
museum.
Sec. 13.1.1 Cultural Facility Definition
New - Means: a public, private, or not for profit facility that provides for
the display, performance, or enjoyment of heritage, history, arts, or nature.
This use includes but is not limited to: museums, arts performances venues,
cultural centers, interpretive sites, libraries, museums, or botanical gardens,
but does not include commercially-operated theaters.
The Planning Advisory Commission (PAC) considered this text amendment at their
meeting on August 19, 2015. The PAC recommended Approval. The Planning
Department recommends Approval.
