SUBJECT: River Road Tower Lease Agreement
INITIATED BY: Engineering Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested for a 3rd Term Option Renewal for the
Verizon, Inc. River Road Tower Lease agreement and authorize an amendment to
allow installation of three additional Cellular Array Antennas.
Background: The City owns a 390 foot guyed Radio Tower at 8889 River Road on
which we provide a Tower Lease agreement with Verizon, Inc. This Tower Lease
originated in May 1998 with provisions for five (5) year Term Renewals. The
Lease agreement requires Council approval each Term Renewal. This Lease
Agreement is also amended to allow the installation of three (3) additional
Cellular Array antennas.
Analysis: Verizon, Inc., is following the procedures of this lease by
requesting a 3rd Option Renewal.
Financial Considerations: Each Renewal Option Term provides for an increase in
the annual rent based on the Consumer Price Index for the last Term.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The current Term's annual rent is
$27,879.28. The 3rd Term Option Renewal will increase the annual rent to
$30,904.18.
Legal Considerations: Each Term Renewal requires Council approval.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the 3rd Term Option Renewal for the Verizon,
Inc. River Road Tower Lease agreement.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TO EXECUTE A THIRD OPTION RENEWAL LEASE AMENDMENT TO
INCLUDE THE ADDITION OF THREE MORE ANTENNAS TO THE VERIZON, INC., TOWER LEASE
AGREEMENT FOR TOWER AND GROUND SPACE AT THE CITY?S RIVER ROAD TOWER SITE
LOCATED AT 8889 RIVER ROAD IN COLUMBUS FOR THE PURPOSE OF INSTALLING, OPERATING
AND MAINTAINING A TELECOMMUNICATIONS FACILITY.
WHEREAS, Verizon, Inc., has a Tower and Ground Space lease agreement with the
City that provides for a Third Option Renewal for another five (5) year Term;
and,
WHEREAS, Verizon, Inc., requests approval for the third Option Renewal to
include the addition of three (3) more antennae; and,
WHEREAS, all other terms and conditions of said Lease agreement shall remain in
effect; and,
WHEREAS, the Third Option Renewal was reviewed by Finance, City
Attorney?s office and Engineering Departments with a recommendation to approve.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a Third Option
Renewal Lease Amendment to include the addition of three more antennas for
Verizon, Inc., Tower Lease Agreement for tower and ground space at the City's
River Road Tower Site, 8889 River Road ,in Columbus for installing, operating
and maintaining a Telecommunications facility.
