SUBJECT: Military Generator Acceptance
INITIATED BY: Columbus Fire and EMS Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into an Inter-Governmental
Agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission to enable the Columbus Dept. of
Fire/EMS to accept two (2) military grade 15 KW portable generators to be
utilized for emergency operations.
Background: The Columbus Dept. of Fire/EMS has been selected by the Georgia
Forestry Commission to receive two (2) surplus military grade 15 KW portable
generators. The value of this equipment is approximately $41,000.
The generators are military surplus material and will be utilized to provide
portable power at emergency scenes to power lights and other electrical
emergency response equipment.
Analysis: The Georgia Forestry Commission is providing the generator. The City
of Columbus and the Department of Fire and EMS will have to agree to the terms
of the provided Inter Agency Agreement.
Financial Considerations: There is a $100.00 transfer fee for each generator
for a total cost of $200.00 and the funds are currently available in the Fire
and EMS FY 2016 Budget.
Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is required to
adhere to the Agency requirements of the IGA. See attached draft.
Recommendation/Action: Approval is requested to enter into the
Inter-Governmental Agreement and to approve the receipt of the generators.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPROVAL TO ENTER INTO AN INTER-GOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT
WITH THE GEORGIA FORESTRY COMMISSION CONCERNING THE TRANSFER OF TWO (2)
MILITARY GRADE 15 KW PORTABLE GENERATORS TO BE UTILIZED DURING EMERGENCY
OPERATIONS BY THE COLUMBUS FIRE AND EMS DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services has been approved by
the Georgia Forestry Commission to receive the generator; and,
WHEREAS, the acquisition of this valuable resource will assist the Department
of Fire/EMS in providing portable emergency power at emergency scenes; and,
WHEREAS, the Department of Fire/EMS is able to staff and sustain the operation
of the equipment; and,
WHEREAS, the emergency generators will be an asset to not only Muscogee County,
but surrounding counties; and,
WHEREAS, the cost of obtaining the generators will be $200.00 with the funds
available in the current Fire/EMS Budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter in to an Inter Governmental
Agreement with the Georgia Forestry Commission concerning the acceptance of two
(2) military grade 15 KW portable generators.
