MINUTES # 23-07
The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at
2:00PM with, Chairman William Braxton, Assessors Lawton Grantham, Richard
Stallings, Ann Grantham, and Pat Hunter present. Also present was Chief
Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.
Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to approve Minutes #22-07, Assessor
Lawton Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried unanimously
The Board approved an assessment correction for real estate.
The Board also reviewed an application for Conservation Use Assessment of
Agricultural Property for Parcel ID 148 002 003. The Board requested the
taxpayer to furnish a management plan.
Met with Mr. Swinehart representing Battle Park Homes, Inc. regarding taxes for
Parcel ID 195 001 001X. Mr. Swinehart stated that he was told taxes are based
on services received. He said the improvements owned by Battle Park Homes, Inc.
are on the Ft. Benning reservation and they receive no services. He explained
that the land is leased from the United States Government and has 17 more years
until maturity. The Board of Tax Assessors refers the question to the City
Attorney.
Met with Mr. Roach Jr. representing Carver Heights Presbyterian Church
regarding a request for non-taxability for property located at 800 32nd Ave
(Parcel ID 053 009 003). Assessor Richard Stallings made a motion to exempt the
property from ad valorem taxes for 2007; Assessor Pat Hunter seconded it;
motion carried.
Mrs. Meadows representing the Tax Commissioner?s Office appeared before the
Board concerning the removal of homestead exemption for Parcel ID 185 022 020
for 2007. Mrs. Meadows gave the Board a brief overview why the Tax
Commissioner?s Office removed the homestead exemption.
Mr. Daffin had an appointment with the Board of Tax Assessors; however, did not
appear. (Parcel ID 185 022 020)
Met with Residential Division Chief Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

Met with Commercial Division Chief Linda King, reviewed and approved the
following:
2007 Permits: 30
2006 Permit: 1
Map Splits: 8
Transfers/Revals: 11
Com Div Chief Linda King discussed with the Board a request from Brookstone
School to review Parcel ID 182 005 001. The property is not used for school
purposes and should it be made taxable. The Board agreed it should be taxable
and to notify them of its taxability.
Met with Personal Property Division Chief Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved
the following:

Pers Prop Div Chief Oliver Juhan told the Board he had not heard from Attorney
Hargrove concerning the request he had forwarded to him.
