Columbus Consolidated Government
Memorandum
DATE: November 9, 2007
TO: Mayor and Council Members
FROM: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: Riverwalk
________________________________________________
Last month, Columbus Citizen Dave Arwood provided the City with a CD of
pictures he had taken from his boat of alligators he spotted along the
Riverwalk.
Cammy Currie, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation contacted Mr. Arwood
and explained that to our knowledge, we?ve never had an incident where they
actually came up on the Riverwalk but there are tales told from fishermen that
there are some along the riverbank near Oxbow and Ft. Benning. She further told
him that we would order some signs advising the public to be cautious in and
around the area ? due to a possible alligator habitat.
The signage was ordered and placed around 1/10 of a mile apart from Rigdon to
Oxbow, which is where the alligators have been spotted. Below is picture of
the actual sign.
If we can provide you with additional information, please advise.
