Agenda Item # 1

Columbus Consolidated Government

Council Meeting

April 9, 2013

Agenda Report # 53

TO: Mayor and Councilors

SUBJECT: Signage/Naming of Natatorium

INITIATED BY: Lisa Goodwin, Deputy City Manager

Recommendation: Approval is requested to place signage on the new Natatorium

that is scheduled to be complete in May 2013 and open to the public in June.

The Natatorium will be called the ?Columbus Aquatic Center?.

Background: The Project Managers are in the process of completing

signage requirements for the new CSC Campus and the final signage need is for

the Natatorium. For the purpose of identifying the facility, as we?ve done on

other such facilities, such as the Ice Rink, the name, ?Columbus Aquatic

Center? was chosen to identify its purpose.

Analysis: Aquatic Center was chosen over Natatorium in an effort to ensure

more people recognize and readily identify with the term ?aquatic over

natatorium? as we?ve discovered in talking with others and looking at other

like facilities throughout the State and the industry.

Financial Considerations: The cost of the signage will come from project funds

associated with the CSC Project. As you may recall, the CSC Project Budget is

$32.5M with funding from 1999 SPLOST; 2008 LOST and Bond Proceeds. The

Natatorium?s Projected Cost is $10.5M

Legal Considerations: None.

Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested authorizing the City Manager

to place signage on the new Natatorium that is scheduled to be complete in May

2013 and open to the public in June. The Natatorium will be called the

?Columbus Aquatic Center?.
