MINUTES # 10-09





The Columbus, Georgia, Board of Tax Assessors met Monday, March 16, 2009 at

9:00AM with Chairman William Braxton, Assessor Richard Stallings, Assessor

Lawton Grantham, Assessor Ann Grantham and Assessor Pat Hunter present. Also

present was Chief Appraiser Betty J. Middleton.



Assessor Ann Grantham made the motion to approve Min#09-09. Assessor Richard

Stallings seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.



The Board approved assessment corrections for real estate.



The Board also reviewed and approved VA letters of application for VA homestead

exemptions for 2009 (Parcel Ids 190 029 012 and 079 011 026).



Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton presented the Board with a list of three

properties, which have been approved to receive Enterprise Zone abatements.



Chief Appraiser Betty Middleton shared with the Board that Lee County does not

charge ad valorem taxes on boats or boat trailers. Assessor Lawton Grantham

made a motion to remove the 2007 fair market value as being erroneously

assessed (account # B1849091) since boat and owner were out of state on January

1, 2007. Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion, motion carried.



The Board received and reviewed the request for non-taxability for Parcel ID

049 002 013. After discussion Assessor Lawton Grantham made a motion to deny

tax exempt status for 2009; Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the motion; motion

carried.



Met with Mrs. Raya regarding her personal property account #07040001. Mrs. Raya

stated the business closed June of 2007. She said there is a suit pending with

a former partner and she has no information available to close the business

license. She said the former partner has all records. After discussion the

Board delayed the decision until they receive more information.

Met with Mr. and Mrs. Averett regarding personal property account# 06737101.

Mrs. Averett explained the operation of the business and why the business

license was necessary. She said there were never any assets connected with the

business. After discussion between Assessor Lawton Grantham and Per Prop Div

Mgr Oliver Juhan; Assessor Lawton Grantham made the motion to reduce the fair

market value of $7,600.00 for 2005 and remove the fair market value for 2006,

2007, & 2008 as being erroneously assessed; Assessor Ann Grantham seconded the

motion; motion carried. Assessor Richard Stallings abstained from voting.



Met with Residential Division Manager Bob O?Brien, reviewed and approved the

following:

Met with Personal Property Division Manager Oliver Juhan, reviewed and approved

the following:
