Meeting Minutes

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Call to order

Chairperson Greg Wagner called to order the regular meeting of the Public

Safety Advisory Committee at 4:06 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the

Community Room of Public Safety Center.

Roll call

Deborah Gasaway conducted a roll call. The following persons were present:

Daniel Williams, Valerie Thompson, Gregory Wagner, Margaret Shafer and Genience

Grandville.



Absent: Laverne Brown, Andrew Hollomon, John Pezold and Willie Belfield Jr.



Empty District Seats: District 2 and District 8

Approval of minutes from last meeting

The minutes were approved as read by each member, motioned by Ms. Thompson and

seconded by Ms. Grandville.



Chairman Wagner addresses the committee

Chairman Wagner addressed the committee concerning a complaint by Ms. Audrey

Palmore. Ms. Palmore was arrested due to a criminal trespass charge on

February 24, 2008, for which Ms. Palmore was never taken into custody, but

given a principal summons to appear in court on February 26, 2008, as a result

of her failure to not enter the property of Nazareth Baptist Church.



Ms. Audrey Palmore addresses the committee

Ms. Palmore tells the committee that she had been arrested due to a warrant the

Sherriff Department had received. Ms. Palmore came to the committee to speak

to them concerning her arrest and the problems she has been having with her

church who had the warrant served.



She explained that she wanted her case to be expunged and for someone to pay

for the court charges. She wanted the church who issued the warrant for her to

pay the court costs.



Major Mill addresses the committee



Major L. Miller from the Office of Professional Standards explains to the group

about Ms. Palmore?s arrest. He explained to Ms. Palmore how her actions put

her into this criminal situation.

He explained that she has a civil matter with her church and he suggested she

contact a lawyer. Major Miller told Ms. Palmore that the Columbus Police

Department would help her start the expungement procedures.



Chief R. T. Boren addresses Ms. Palmore and the committee



Chief Boren explains the procedure of an expungement to Ms. Palmore. He

explained to Ms. Palmore she did not need an attorney to file an expungement.

He would speak to Major Swiney and have him wavier the fee for the

expungement. He would have Ms. Lori McNeal who works in the Bureau of Support

Services to set up an appointment time to help her fill out the expungement

forms.



Chief Boren asks Major Miller to take Ms. Palmore to see Ms. McNeil and start

the procedures. (Ms. Palmore and Major Miller leave the room)



Mr. Greg Wagner updates the committee on a complaint by Ms. Judy Wilkinson?s

Mr. Wagner updates the committee about a complaint Ms. Judy Wilkinson had spoke

to the committee concerning the Columbus Police Department. Ms. Wilkinson had

requested the minutes from the January 27th, 2011 meeting. He further stated

that Ms. Wilkinson has now initiated a complaint with the Sheriff?s

Department.



Adjournment



Chairperson Wagner thanks everyone for attending the meeting and the next

meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012. A motion to adjourned the

meeting by Mr. D. Williams and seconded by Ms. G. Granville. Mr. Wagner

adjourned the meeting at 5:04 p.m.
