A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY (GRANT RECIPIENT AND ADMINISTRATOR) UNDER THE
WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA), TO ACCEPT A BRAC PLANNING GRANT IN THE AMOUNT
OF $250,000, AWARDED UNDER THE WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA), AND AUTHORIZE
THE CITY MANAGER TO SERVE AS SIGNATORY OFFICIAL FOR FUNDING ALLOCATED AND
AWARDED BY CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF GEORGIA FOR IMPLEMENTATION
OF SUPPORT FOR IDENTIFYING WORKFORCE NEEDS IN THE LOCAL LABOR MARKET THAT HAS
BEEN IMPLEMENTED AS A RESULT OF THE BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE.
WHEREAS, the Lower Chattahoochee Workforce Area has been awarded a BRAC
Planning Grant, in the amount of $250,000 for implementation of support for
identifying workforce needs in the local labor market that has been impacted as
a result of a base realignment and closure; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of this grant is to develop a comprehensive plan and
activities to assist the local area in addressing the needs of the community?s
workforce needs and the significant influx of military personnel, military
dependents, and civilian workers arriving at Fort Benning and the surrounding
community as a result of BRAC 2005; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has made funding available, in the amount of
$250,000 to assist with pre-implementation plans.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to:
1) Accept the BRAC funding in the amount of $250,000 from the Georgia
Department of Labor for development of a comprehensive plan and activities to
assist the local area in addressing the community?s workforce needs;
2) Accept funds allocated under the Workforce Investment Act and increase the
budget, if necessary;
3) Act as signatory official for receipt of funding allocated and awarded by
contractual agreement.
Introduced at a regular meeting of the Council of Columbus, Georgia,
held the __________ day of ______________ 2006, and adopted at said meeting by
the affirmative vote of __________ members of said Council.
