Columbus Consolidated Government
Referrals From Mayor and Council-10/31/2006
Subject Proposed Widening of St. Mary's Road
Description Have the staff to ask the Department of Transportation to
re-examine the conceptual design for St. Mary?s Road, as well as before they
come back to the community with a new or revised conceptual design, that they
provide a copy of that design to the Columbus City Council. (Request of
Councilor Hunter)
Let?s make sure that the Administration get the State Legislators involved in
this proposed widening project, and before the resolution is sent up to the
Department of Transportation that all of the comments needs to be attached to
it when it goes up to them. Also, let?s make sure that we put something in
there, as it relates to Ford Drive because there proposal is to cul-de-sac Ford
Drive which means that you will put that traffic on Farr Road. (Request of
Councilor Turner Pugh)

Response 11/2/06 - Staff met with DOT officials on 11/1/06 to express Council's
concerns about this project. DOT has asked that we submit a request to develop
a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to help develop plans for this roadway.
The CAC would be an advisory group made up of residents and businesses along
St. Mary's Road and would have direct input into the overall roadway design.
This approach will allow those citizens who will be most affected by this
project to participate in this process. Staff is preparing this letter, along
with a copy of the resolution passed by the Council and the comments received
from Mr. Gary Johnson at the 10/31/06 Council meeting. RJ
