The current term of office of Major Julius Graham would be expiring on

March 31, 2012.



Major Graham has not served two full consecutive terms; therefore, he is

eligible to serve another three-year term of office. This seat is the Mayor?s

appointment; Major Graham serves in a seat slated for a representative of the

law enforcement agencies.



We have enclosed a copy of the data sheet on this board and a listing of

the current board members.

COMPOSITION OF BOARD: Seven members.



QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Not addressed by the ordinance that created this

board (No. 09-56, Sec. 2-252, Columbus Code), but see Sec. 2-3.02 (a) Col. Code

for general qualifications of all boards.



MEMBERS APPOINTED BY: The Mayor shall appoint the Chair of the Crime

Prevention Board, one member from law enforcement agencies, a representative of

the educational community and a Fort Benning liaison. The Columbus Council

shall appoint the remaining three members from citizens at large. Two of these

three members shall be appointed from different senatorial districts serving

Columbus in the Georgia General Assembly.

Prevention is to provide leadership on effective and cost-efficient ways to

prevent and to reduce crime by identifying truly outstanding crime prevention

programs that meet a high scientific standard of effectiveness and that are

innovative initiatives that help stop crime before it starts.



COMPENSATION: Not addressed by Sec. 22-38, Columbus Code, but members have not

been compensated.

Charge/Mission: The mission of Office of Crime Prevention is to provide

leadership on effective and cost-efficient ways to prevent and to reduce crime

by identifying truly outstanding crime prevention programs that meet a high

scientific standard of effectiveness and that are innovative initiatives that

help stop crime before it starts. The goal of the Office of Crime Prevention

is to enhance and improve the services offered by various departments and

agencies with an aim toward reducing crime and to directly impact the mission

of preventing crime. The Office of Crime Prevention will work to streamline and

coordinate crime prevention efforts in our city, and to ensure a high level of

accountability to the citizens of Columbus, Georgia who passed the Local Option

Sales Tax in the summer of 2008. There shall be an Office of Crime Prevention

Board that shall be made up of seven (7) members, including the chairperson.

Of the seven seats on the Board, one shall be held by a representative selected

from the law enforcement agencies, including the Muscogee County Sheriff?s

Office, the Muscogee County Marshal?s Office, and the Columbus Police

Department. The representative shall serve a one-year term and may be

reappointed for one additional consecutive one-year term. One shall be held by

a representative of the educational community in Muscogee County to include but

not be limited to the Muscogee County School District, Columbus Technical

College, and Columbus State University. One shall be held by a Ft. Benning

Liaison and the remaining three members appointed by Council from citizens

at-large. Two of these three members shall be appointed from different

senatorial districts serving Columbus in the Georgia General Assembly.
