SUBJECT: FY 2018 Local Government & Improvement Grant (LMIG)
INITIATED BY: Engineering Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested to submit an application and accept FY
18 Local Government & Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the Georgia Department of
Transportation (GDOT).
Background: LMIG is the GDOT program that replaced the County Contracts for
resurfacing and funding toward projects. The proposal is to use FY 18 funds
toward the Ft. Benning Road Roundabout and the Forrest Road Widening, Phase I
project. Forrest Road Widening, Phase I , is currently under construction and
cost have exceeded the original budget. The remainder of the LMIG funds will
be spent toward the Ft . Benning Road Roundabout which is expected to exceed
the current budgeted funds.
Analysis: It is necessary to execute the attached LMIG Agreement for 2018 with
GDOT in order to receive the funds and proceed with the projects. The Ft
Benning Road Roundabout is scheduled to bid in the first quarter of 2018.
Financial Considerations: $800,000 will be used for the completion of the
Forrest Road Widening Project. The remainder of the funds, $1,279,905.58 will
be used toward the Ft Benning Road Roundabout.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: These roads will become part of the
annual operating/capital budget for normal maintenance.
Legal Considerations: Council must authorize the acceptance of all grants.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approval is requested to make application and accept
FY 18 Local Government & Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the Georgia Department
of Transportation (GDOT).

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO MAKE APPLICATION AND RECEIVE THE FY 2018
LOCAL MAINTENANCE & IMPROVEMENT GRANT (LMIG) FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION (GDOT).
WHEREAS, the City has received notice from GDOT they are accepting applications
for the FY 2018 LMIG Program in the amount of $2,079,905.58 allocated for
Columbus-Muscogee County; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed use of the funds is $800,000 toward the Forrest Road
Widening, Phase I project and the remaining $1,279,905.58 toward the Ft Benning
Road Roundabout project; and,
WHEREAS, the match for these funds will come from the existing project budgets.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the Mayor is hereby authorized to make application and receive funds
allocated for the FY 2018 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the
Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
