Recommendation: Authorize the City Manager to declare property located at 807
Washington Avenue 050 038 003, 817 Washington Avenue 050 038 006
2607 Buena Vista Road 050 038 002, 2601 Buena Vista Road 050 038 001, 2612
Baldwin Street 050 038 008 and 2620 Baldwin Street 050 038 007 as surplus,
advertise and sell said property in accordance with City Code Section 7.501 in
Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.
Background: The City acquired the specified parcels as part of a planned
transportation project to widen Buena Vista Road to 4 lanes. The project to
widen Buena Vista Road to 4 lanes has been abandon. The current project to
widen Buena Vista Road will be a three lane design. The new design will not
require the properties identified above. The properties are no longer needed
by the City. The City is currently required to maintain the properties in
accordance with City property maintenance requirements.
Analysis: There has been interest expressed by a party to develop the combined
properties. The City no longer has a use for the property and continues to
incur expenses to keep the property maintained. The development of the vacant
properties is desirable over the properties remaining as vacant lots. The
disposal of the properties would relieve the City of responsibility for
maintaining the properties and would provide a revenue for the General Fund.
Financial Considerations: The disposal of the property would be a one time
source of revenue for the General Fund.
Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The disposal of the property would
relieve the City of responsibility for maintaining the properties.
Legal Considerations: Council must approve the disposal of property.
Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize the City Manager to declare property
located at 807 Washington Avenue 050 038 003, 817 Washington Avenue 050 038
006, 2607 Buena Vista Road 050 038 002, 2601 Buena Vista Road 050 038 001, 2612
Baldwin Street 050 038 008 and 2620 Baldwin Street 050 038 007 as surplus,
advertise and sell said property in accordance with City Code Section 7.501 in
Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DECLARE 807 WASHINGTON AVENUE 050
038 003, 817 WASHINGTON AVENUE 050 038 006, 2607 BUENA VISTA ROAD 050 038 002 ,
601 BUENA VISTA ROAD 050 038 001, 2612 BALDWIN STREET 050 038 008, AND 2620
BALDWIN STREET 050 038 007 AS SURPLUS, ADVERTISE AND SELL SAID PROPERTY IN
ACCORDANCE WITH CITY CODE 7.501 IN COLUMBUS, MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GEORGIA
WHEREAS, the properties were acquired for right of way to widen Buena Vista
Road to a 4 lane roadway; and,
WHEREAS, the project to widen Buena Vista Road to 4 lanes has been abandon with
current plans to widen the roadway to a three lane design. Sufficient right of
way for the three lane design will be retained by the City; and,
WHEREAS, the City has no current use or future plans for the property; and,
WHEREAS, all existing utility easements of record remain in effect and
providing appropriate width as required by applicable utility companies shall
be reserved for unknown utilities; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to declare 807 Washington Avenue 050 038
003, 817 Washington Avenue 050 038 006, 2607 Buena Vista Road 050 038 002, 601
Buena Vista Road 050 038 001, 2612 Baldwin Street 050 038 008, and 2620 Baldwin
Street 050 038 007 as surplus, advertise and sell said property in accordance
with City Code 7.501 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.
