SUBJECT: Columbus Fire and EMS Surplus Vehicles
INITIATED BY: Columbus Fire and EMS Department
Recommendation: Approval is requested authorizing the declaration of (5) Fire
Trucks and (2) Ambulances as surplus, in accordance with section 7-501 of the
charter of Columbus Consolidated Government. Approval is requested for the
Columbus Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services to donate 7 surplus
vehicles to surrounding volunteer fire departments.
Background: Columbus Fire and EMS purchased new vehicles in 2017 and would
like for the vehicles deemed surplus to be donated to surrounding volunteer
fire departments. Approval is requested for the Columbus Department of Fire and
Emergency Medical Services to donate 7 surplus vehicles to surrounding
volunteer fire departments.
Analysis: These vehicle are deemed unrepairable or no longer advantageous to
repair.
Financial Considerations: There are no financial obligations.
Legal Considerations: A hold harmless agreement will be signed by the
receiving volunteer fire departments.
Recommendation/Action: Authorization is requested for the donation of the
surplus Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services vehicles.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DECLARATION OF (5) FIRE TRUCKS AND (2) AMBULANCES
AS SURPLUS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 7-501 OF THE CHARTER OF COLUMBUS
CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT.
WHEREAS, the equipment has either been replaced or placed out of service due to
excess maintenance cost; and,
WHEREAS, due to the surplus vehicles the department would like to donate these
vehicles; therefore, vehicle number 3171 (2002 Pierce Fire Truck) will be
donated to the Ft. Perry Fire Department (Box Springs, GA), vehicle number 3163
(2000 E-ONE Fire Truck), vehicle number 2367 (2007 International Ambulance) and
vehicle number 2364 (2005 International Ambulance) will be donated to the
O?Neal Volunteer Fire Department (Talbotton, GA), vehicle number 3159 (1998
E-ONE Ladder Truck) and vehicle number 3162 (2000 E-ONE Fire Truck) will be
donated to the Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Volunteer Fire Department (Cusseta,
GA), vehicle number 3026 (2006 Pierce Fire Truck) will be donated to the
Richland Volunteer Fire Department (Richland, GA).
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized to declare four
(5) fire trucks and three (2) ambulances as surplus, in accordance with Section
7-501 of the Charter of Columbus Consolidated Government; and is authorized to
donate vehicle number 3171 (2002 Pierce Fire Truck) will be donated to the Ft.
Perry Fire Department (Box Springs, GA), vehicle number 3163 (2000 E-ONE Fire
Truck), vehicle number 2367 (2007 International Ambulance) and vehicle number
2364 (2005 International Ambulance) will be donated to the O?Neal Volunteer
Fire Department (Talbotton, GA), vehicle number 3159 (1998 E-ONE Ladder Truck)
and vehicle number 3162 (2000 E-ONE Fire Truck) will be donated to the
Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Volunteer Fire Department (Cusseta, GA), vehicle
number 3026 (2006 Pierce Fire Truck) will be donated to the Richland Volunteer
Fire Department (Richland, GA).
