A RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Open Door Community House, Inc. of Columbus recently served as the

clothing distribution site for victims of Hurricane Katrina;



WHEREAS, the Open Door coordinated over 250 community volunteers who

worked over 1800 hours and served over 1200 Katrina evacuees;



WHEREAS, Open Door also served as the site for the ?Bridging the Racial Divide?

Conference, hosted by Pierce Chapel, South Columbus, and St. Mary?s Road United

Methodist Churches;



WHEREAS, this organization also served over 400 people at the annual Community

Thanksgiving Banquet and over 200 children and homeless adults through its

Sharing Christmas Ministry;



WHEREAS, Open Door recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary and will provide

the site for the New Horizons Homeless Resource Fair on February 23, 2006;



WHEREAS, the activities and compassion of staff members and volunteers at the

Open Door Community House are worthy of special recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate Open Door Community House, Inc. upon its

70th Anniversary in the Columbus community and we wish its staff and board of

directors every success in the future. Let a copy of this resolution be

forwarded to Kim Jenkins, Executive Director of Open Door Community House, Inc.
