Sales Tax for Transportation
The House will consider the House Committee on Transportation's substitute to
SR 845 on Thursday, March 27th. This resolution would authorize regional
commission areas to hold a referendum to levy a 1 cent sales tax for
transportation purposes. A Rules Committee approved amendment will be offered
that would dedicate the current 1 cent sales tax on motor fuels to
transportation projects. If approved, that action would move almost $190
million from the general fund to dedicated transportation purposes in FY 2010.

Senate Tax Cuts
The Senate might consider HR 1246 and HB 1244 this week, which include over $1
billion in tax cuts in the coming years. The Senate substitute for HR 1246 and
HB 1244 would reduce income tax brackets by 10 percent over 5 years. The
spending cap of population growth plus government inflation (SR 20) that was
included as originally passed out of the Senate Finance Committee was removed
from the bill by the Senate Finance Committee on March 27th. GBPI analysis of
