Agenda Report #
TO: Mayor and Council
SUBJECT: Rails-to-Trails Rules
INITIATED BY: Planning Department
Recommendation: The Planning Department recommends approval of the
proposed Rails-to-Trails rules as submitted.
Background: Construction of Phases 1 & 2 of the Rails-to-Trails project
is expected to be completed by the end of Spring 2010. In order to ensure
public safety along the new Rails-to-Trails pedestrian and biking trail, the
establishment of a set of rules is needed. These rules, which will be referred
to as "Trail Etiquette" along the trail, will promote safe use of the trail for
all users.
Analysis: The proposed trail rules are a result of research of similar trail
projects and input from several other CCG departments. Trail rules must be
adopted by ordinance in order to be enforceable by the Columbus Police
Department.
Financial Considerations: Funding allocated from 1999 SPLOST
Legal Considerations: The City Attorney agrees with this action
Recommendations/ Actions: The Planning Department Recommends approval of the
proposed Rails-to-Trails rules as submitted.
