A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE COLUMBUS PLANNING DEPARTMENT FOR RECEIVING TWO

AWARDS FROM THE GEORGIA PLANNING ASSOCIATION.



WHEREAS, the Columbus Planning Department is the agency responsible for

providing continuous, comprehensive, and coordinated planning efforts, through

a proactive public participation process, that will provide for regional growth

and regional mobility, while fostering sustainable development sensitive to

community and natural resources;



WHEREAS, the Columbus Planning Department is comprised of land use and

transportation planning professionals;



WHEREAS, the Georgia Planning Association is an official Chapter of the

American Planning Association which represents over 1,100 professional planners

and planning officials who serve Georgia?s communities and citizens alike;



WHEREAS, at the 2009 Fall conference of the Georgia Planning Association

recognized the planning efforts of the Planning Department with not one, but

two awards for its planning efforts in the community and state: Outstanding

Plan Implementation for a Large Community for the Warm Springs Rails to Trails

project, and best Educational Tool for the development of the Columbus Zoning

Handbook;



WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Planning Department and its valued

employees are worthy of special recognition by this Council.



NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA HEREBY RESOLVES:



We hereby commend and congratulate Director Rick Jones, Will Johnson, Felton

Grant, Lynda Temples, Mark Gullate, Rosana Juestel, Martha Santana, Daniel

Stegall, Rush Wickes, Charlie Crumpton, Tina Trant and Annette Gore for their

efforts in obtaining these awards. Let a copy of this resolution be forwarded

to each member of the Planning Department.
