The current terms of office of Mr. John Adams, Ms. Amy Askew and Sgt.
Chris Anderson expired on July 16, 2014.
Mr. Adams serves as the Taxicab Owner Representative, Ms. Askew serves as
the Chamber of Commerce Representative and Sgt. Anderson serves as the Columbus
Police Department Representative. All three are eligible to serve another
two-year term of office.
We have enclosed a copy of the data sheet on this board and a listing of
the current board members.

CREATED BY: Ordinance No. 96-99, adopted October 8, 1996, as codified in Sec.
21-14 of the Col. Code.
CHARTER REFERENCE: No reference to this specific board, but see Sect 4-103,
General Provisions concerning Boards, Commissions, and Authorities.
COMPOSTION OF BOARD: This board shall consist of seven (9) members appointed
by the Columbus Council and consisting of two (2) taxicab owners, one (1)
taxicab driver, one (1) representative selected by the Columbus Chamber of
Commerce, one (1) selected by the Airport Commission, one (1) selected from the
Hotel/Motel Industry and one (1) representative selected by the Chief of Police
and (2) At-Large Members. (Ordinance No 99-23 amending Section 21-14 of the
Columbus Code).
QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS: Must be residents of Columbus, GA
MEMBERS APPOINTED BY: The Columbus Council (Cols. Code, Sec 21-14)
TERMS OF OFFICE: The members of the Commission shall serve for terms of two
(4) years and shall be eligible to serve two (2) full terms. (Cols. Code, Sec

POWERS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Commission shall ensure that taxicab
drivers are properly educated as to serving the public and shall ensure that
drivers are courteous to citizens, are familiar with the territory of Columbus,
Georgia, shall ensure that taxicab company owners and drivers maintain
cleanliness and safety of all taxicabs and shall ensure that ordinance
provisions including regulations governing taxicab fees and charges are
followed by all taxicab drivers and taxicab company owners. The Commission
will also hear appeals from denials and revocations of taxicab permits by the
Columbus Police Department (Cols. Code, Sec.21-14)
COMPENSATION: Members are not compensated.

applying to all boards, commissions and authorities.
