SUBJECT: Lease Agreement ? 5001 12th Avenue
INITIATED BY: Community Reinvestment
Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter a lease agreement with
Beallwood Area Neighborhood Development (B.A.N.D.) to lease the building at
5001 12th Avenue for $12 per year for a period of five (5) years.
Background: The City owns the property located at 5001 12th Avenue. It has
been leased since July 1, 2006 by the Beallwood Area Neighborhood Development
(B.A.N.D.) as a neighborhood community center for $12 per year. The lease
agreement expired on June 30, 2016 and B.A.N.D has requested to renew the lease
for an additional five years.
Analysis: If the City does not lease the building to B.A.N.D., it will become
vacant. It would be in the best interest of the City to keep the building
occupied. The City will also be assisting Beallwood neighborhood in its
redevelopment efforts by allowing them to continue utilizing this facility. The
tenant will be responsible for maintenance of the building, utilities, and must
obtain liability insurance.
Financial Considerations: There will be no cost burden to the City. The
tenant will be responsible for all maintenance and utilities, and will be
required to maintain liability insurance.
Legal Considerations: Any lease agreement involving this City requires Council
approval.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH
BEALLWOOD AREA NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT (B.A.N.D.) TO LEASE THE BUILDING AT
5001 12TH AVENUE FOR $12 PER YEAR FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE (5) YEARS.
WHEREAS, the building is currently leased by Beallwood Area Neighborhood
Development (B.A.N.D.); and,
WHEREAS, the City owns the building located at 5001 12th Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, B.A.N.D. has requested to renew the lease agreement for the building;
and,
WHEREAS, the property will continue to be used as a neighborhood community
center; and,
WHEREAS, the City will charge the tenant $12 per year for a period of five (5)
years and the tenant will be responsible for all maintenance costs, utilities
and maintaining liability insurance.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a lease agreement with
Beallwood Area Neighborhood Development (B.A.N.D.) to lease the building at
5001 12th Avenue for $12 per year for a period of five (5) years.
