Ms. Nancy Boren
Director of Elections & Registrations
P. O. Box 1340
Columbus, Georgia 31902
Dear Ms. Boren:
On a previous letter dated February 15, 2012, a copy of the recommendations as
submitted by the 2011 Charter Review Commission was provided to be listed on
the ballot in November 2012.
However, The Charter Review Commission has since reconvened for one additional
meeting and is requesting to remove one proposed change from the ballot. On
April 9, 2012, the Charter Review Commission voted in the majority to remove
the recommended change to Article VII. Section 7-100(2) that reads; ?to assess
and collect a service fee in an amount not to exceed $500.00, on each property
subject to taxation by the consolidated government to offset a portion of the
cost of providing police and fire services under such rules and regulations as
prescribed by ordinance provided that each assessment shall be reduced by
amount of ad valorem taxes paid for the same calendar year in which the fee is
assessed on the same property;. (A copy of the letter from Chairman John
Shinkle affirming the change is attached.)
Please accept this letter as an amendment to the previous recommendations
forwarded that is to be listed on the November ballot for Columbus, Georgia.
Sincerely,
Sandra T. Davis
Deputy Clerk of Council
Council of Columbus, Georgia
