SUBJECT: CJCC Grant - Contractor



INITIATED BY: Adult Felony Drug Court







Recommendation: Approval is requested to enter into a contract with Lauren

Mescon to provide consulting services to the Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug

Court utilizing $6,936 funded from a previously approved and accepted grant

from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.



Background: The State of Georgia through the Criminal Justice Coordinating

Council has granted and the Columbus Consolidated Government has accepted a

grant of $6,936 for the Adult Felony Drug Court. The Adult Felony Drug Court

has determined that these funds should be used to hire a consultant to evaluate

and implement procedures to improve the operation of the court.



Analysis: The Columbus Consolidated Government has received and accepted a

grant of $6,936 for the Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug Court from the CJCC.

A request has been submitted and approved by the CJCC to utilize these funds to

provide consulting services to the Adult Felony Drug Court.



Financial Considerations: The City is not required to provide matching funds

to participate in this grant program.



Projected Annual Fiscal Impact Statement: The Columbus Consolidated

Government is not obligated to continue this program once the grant has been

expended.



Legal Considerations: The Columbus Consolidated Government is eligible to

apply for funds from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Councils.



Recommendations/ Actions: Authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract

with Lauren Mescon to provide consulting services to the Muscogee County Adult

Felony Drug Court utilizing $6,936 funded from a previously approved and

accepted grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.









A RESOLUTION

NO. _____

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR

$6,936.00 WITH LAUREN MESCON TO PROVIDE CONSULTING SERVICE TO THE MUSCOGEE

COUNTY ADULT FELONY DRUG COURT UTILIZING $6,936.00 FUNDED FROM A PREVIOUSLY

APPROVED AND ACCEPTED GRANT FROM THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE COORDINATING COUNCIL.

WHEREAS, funds have been made available from the Judicial Council of Georgia

Standing Committee on Accountability Courts for the purpose of funding the

Adult Felony Drug Court; and,

WHEREAS, the Adult Felony Drug Court has determined that it would be beneficial

for the court to utilize these funds for consulting services; and,

WHEREAS, the Adult Felony Drug Court will improve operating procedures,

organizations structure, utilization of assets and case flow; and,

WHEREAS, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council has approved our request to

utilize the funds for this purpose; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

That the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with Lauren

Mescon to provide consulting services to the Muscogee County Adult Felony Drug

Court utilizing $6,936 funded from a previously approved and accepted grant

from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
