THE GREATER COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY
MINUTES OF MEETING
August 22, 2006
The Greater Columbus Golf Authority held the scheduled monthly meeting at Bull
Creek Golf Course. Members present were Richard Hagler, Floyd Washington,
Nancy Wilkeson, Donald Clack, Michael Silverstein, June Holder and Willie
Hill. Staff members present were John Milam and Steve Brown. Nan Hopkins and
Aubrey Burt were invited guests.
Minutes of the July 25, 2006 meeting were approved as presented. Motion made
by Donald Clack and seconded by June Holder.
Old Business
To offset fuel costs and the perception of ?free golf? at Bull Creek, Floyd
Washington made a motion to charge a nominal fee for carts to the authority
members, employees, marshals, spouses and anyone who trades labor for golf.
Donald Clack seconded this motion. Motion passed. A fee of $1 will be
assessed for 9 holes of golf and a $2 fee for 18 holes of golf. This will
become effective September 1, 2006.
New Business

Superintendent Report by Steve Brown
Mr. Pat O?Brien, Southeast Director of Greens Section, visited Bull Creek and
Oxbow Creek today to assess the courses on the conditions of the greens,
fairways, etc. His recommendations will be sent to the authority members in
the next few weeks. Mr. O?Brien stated that the greens looked really nice
(free from organic matter). The cost of herbicide in the next several years
will increase from $12.50 to $15 per acre to $80 to $100 per acre. The vending
building near the 12th tee box on the west course will be painted and the drink
machines will be installed next week. A lightning rod will be installed as
well.
Godwin Creek
The First Tee Board will meet tomorrow, so there is no financial report
available. The summer sessions were very successful. During school, programs
are offered Monday through Thursday afternoon and on Saturday. Formal requests
for grants/donation have been sent to two local foundations and two national
foundations.
Director of Golf
Two positions at Bull Creek were eliminated. They were the cart mechanic and
head marshal. The mechanics position was eliminated from Oxbow Creek. Those
positions will be taken over by existing staff.
Oxbow Creek?s revenue is slightly higher for July 2006 than compared to July
2005. August?s revenue will be higher as well. The average round at Oxbow
Creek is $16 for 18 holes. Bull Creek?s revenue is approximately $13,000
higher for July 2006 than compared to July 2005. August?s revenues will be
higher than compared to last year. The average round at Bull Creek is $23.40
for 18 holes.
Bull Creek took over the snack bar effective August 1st. The City license has
been received and the State license has been applied for.
Michael Silverstein asked if a resolution honoring Rhudine Nelson and Earl
Bagley for their dedication to the authority board has been made. The answer
is no.
Richard Hagler adjourned the meeting at 4:29 p.m.
