SUBJECT: Juvenile Drug Court
INITIATED BY: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention
Recommendation: Approval is requested to extend the current contract with the
Muscogee County Juvenile Drug Court for $66,429.79 for Crime Prevention
initiatives through June 30, 2014.
Background: Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has agreed to recommend the
balance of the funding for the Juvenile Drug Court toward the reduction of
recidivism and continued drug use among non-violent juvenile offenders.
Analysis: Funds will be used to pay for new initiatives, which are as follows:
1) In Home Counseling 2) GPS Monitoring 3) Psychological Evaluations and 4)
Speakers and Prevention DVD?s.
Financial Considerations: These funds are appropriated from the Other Local
Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention Program and do not require a match.
Recommendations/ Actions: Approve the resolution authorizing the Mayor and
City Manager to extend the existing contract with Juvenile Drug Court to
provide funding through June 30, 2014 for 1) In Home Counseling 2) GPS
Monitoring 3) Psychological Evaluations and 4) Speakers and Prevention DVD?s.
A RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF CONTRACT WITH THE JUVENILE DRUG COURT
FOR $66,429.70 FOR FUNDING INITIATIVES OF THE JUVENILE DRUG COURT.
WHEREAS, Juvenile Drug Court has the Juvenile Drug Court Program that impact
lives of juveniles to reduce the rate of continued drug usage; and,
WHEREAS, the Columbus Office of Crime Prevention has authorized funding under
the Crime Prevention Program for this project in the amount of $66,429.70 to
the Juvenile Drug Court Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
That the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized to extend the
current contract through Columbus Office of Crime Prevention with Juvenile Drug
Court through June 30, 2014 for the balance of the funding for the Juvenile
Drug Court Program. Funds were budgeted in the FY13 budget and will be carried
over to the FY14 Budget: Other Local Option Sales Tax, Crime Prevention
Program.
